Snake

Last week Room 20 did a persuasive piece of writing about what pet would be the best. We all had unlikely pet's. But lucky for us a snake is a pet. 1 group won and 2 groups came second. Down below is our argument and hopefully you will like snakes as much as we now do.

The Number 1 Pet

Intro: Snakes are evil, wild beasts. No one wants one of them. They are poisonous and deadly! Well what if I told you that most snakes aren't deadly or poisonous and that snakes are actually a common pet to have? Hear us out and you will like snakes after all.

Reason 1: Did you know if you go to special places overseas you can hold snakes? When they are tamed of course! Once they are tamed you could play with them and even dress up your snake. (If your snake likes being dressed up.) Heaps of people hold snakes all the time without having the snake's mouth taped or strapped incase of it biting. Believe it or not people even try teaching snakes tricks. So snakes aren't actually as vicious as you think they are.

Reason 2: Small snakes like the Thread Snake eats the eggs of ants and centipedes. A medium snake like the Tree Boa, eats mostly all insects. Yellow Rat snakes eat rats and mice. All snakes swallow their food whole so forget seeing half a rat left in your house by cat or dog, and say hello to a snake.

Reason 3: Surely you understand the slight annoyance of having chew toys around the place, animal fur over clothing or furniture, but Snakes don't make messes. Snakes are really neat. All you need to do is leave them in their cages or tanks.

Reason 4: Sure snakes need special heating and other things to keep them alive and all, but after you have those things you don't need to worry about them. Just make sure they have water and food - and the cage door shut - and then you're fine.

Conclusion:  You don’t want to spend heaps of money on food, or clean up after your pets when they are finished eating. You want a nice animal that you can dress up and pat, if you don’t wanna mess around your house you need a snake. There is no other animal like a snake on earth so go buy a snake now!!!

Art In Room 20

Art

This Time for art we have been trying the style of Picasso. First we choose our face shape from roll a Picasso or the Picasso head website. Then we choose our eyes, nose, mouth and accessory. ( some people also added in ears but I didn't have enough room.) Then we had to draw our features onto a little peace of paper. After doing that we needed to draw our head onto a piece of A3 paper.

Also when we finished drawing we started colouring in. We had to try and use unusual colours and out of everything on our face we had to have some side ways things to put the Picasso into it.

Revolution

Today the Revolution team came and Blake shared a song then made up a freestyle. I went up the front with a fidget spinner. Blake told us a story about his childhood when he saw no velu in himself so he didn't see it in anyone elise so he thought that bully people would make him feel better and make him more cool. But then one day he met 5 people and they all said, " I see in you my friend, I see it in you my friend." Then he saw velu in himself and in others.

Dog

Caitlin Rowland

Plan:

Arriving at the beach, jumping out of the car
Sand in my toes water in my ears, my claws dug into the ground
Swaying water as far as my eye could see
As I spray water from my feet
Jumping around trying to stand on the fish
Chasing everything in my way

“Hu” I smelt something weird. Pearing out the window I see loads of, this thing that look like it was swallowing people up then spitting them out. I wonder what would happen to me if I went in there? “Well only one way to find out”, I asked myself as I leaped out and landed on the warm, soft surface surrounding me. It looked like lots of little bits of salt, so I licked it. “ Hum this doesn’t task like salt, but if it’s not salt what is it.” At this point I started barking at the salt like thing, and when I say barking I meant A LOT of barking. Wait a second, I looked at my feet. They were completely covered in it.

After a while of trying to get the salt thing* out from in my toes, I went into the swaying thing* right in front of me. Now this thing didn’t stay still at all and it went so far I couldn’t see the end of it. It looked like it went on for miles and miles. So what else to do, than go in.

By the time I started to like the swaying thing was when my best friend Sally came in. She was like a sister to me, I mean we have lived in the same house for all our lives. But I knew deep down that we were very different, she was a big tall thing that stood on two feet and I was much smaller thing that was covered in fur and walked on four feet.

The swaying thing tried to sweep me out and onto the salt stuff, but I cept coming in. By now I could stay in there for a long long time. I dug my claws really deep into the salt stuff and then this weird, bright, yellow, flat thingy-mic-bob flew through the air and it was heading straight for me. I jumped, the opened my mouth as wide as a bear, and caught it right in between my teeth.

“Ah” I barked, because the only thing I could now see was legs, lots and lots of legs. Next thing I knew My feet weren't touching the ground any more. I felt cold hand on my stomach and a hand pulling the flat thing out of my mouth. ‘Was I not supposed to have it?’ Just as they slipped it out of my mouth slobber dripping off on end I thought ‘ maybe it was a pancake. They have them all the time and they looks just like that.’ I clutched my teeth back onto the pancake*. Then I realized another thing. The swaying thing is slobber*. “Yuck!” I hailed. I jumped out of there arms and onto the salt like thing. I shook my fur until I thought I was no longer covered in slobber.

Jumping into the car I felt a lot of things. Smart, wet, dirty and happy; happy to be back home.

Salt thing - sand. I (the dog) didn’t know what sand was so I thought it was salt but after licking it realised it wasn’t.

Swaying thing - water I (the dog) didn’t know what water was so called it the swaying thing/slobber.

Pancake - Frisbee I (the dog) didn’t know what a frisbee was so called it a pancake because it looked just like one and my family had them all the time at my house.

Hockey Part 2

Hockey Report Part 1

Hockey Report

Hockey is a popular sport in New Zealand, played with a ball and a stick. It is played by running up and down the field, trying to sweep or slap hit the ball into the opposite goal.

Positions:

Since there are only have 11 people in a team they need to know where they are going. One place is the goalie, they stop the ball from going into the goal, therefore the other team can’t score a goal. But they also need people to run the ball up to the fords because the goalie wears so many pads they can’t run. That’s when the backs come in. They run the ball up to the mids as well as help the goalie to get the ball away from the goal, meanwhile the mids do quite a lot like… run the ball up to the fords so they can score a goal or help the goalie and backs to get the ball away from the goal.

Basic Rules:

Here are some of the basic rules of hockey…
If the ball has just gone out everyone need’s to be 5m away from whoever is taking the ball, before they can tackle them. ( Not a rugby tackle ) In higher levels people can lift the ball above head height if they are 5m away from other players. If the ball is in open play they have to be 5m away before anyone can lift the ball. No one can hit anyones hockey stick before they hit the ball, this is called hacking. They can’t let the hockey ball hit anyone's feet or it is an advantage to the other team. They can only use the flat side of there stick. No one can’t play without a mouth guard, shin pads or with jewelry!

equipment:

In hockey there is a lot of things people need, to play safely. First the basics, a hockey stick and a ball. Then stuff people can’t play without, shin pads and a mouthguard. Then if they have a goalie then they need goalie gear.

Hayley's Horror Recount

Hayley’s Horror

“Listen to the story of Hayley and how it got called Hayley’s Horror…
Once the was a girl called Hayley and she was an orintera. There was one path she always went on to walk her dog. But one day that all changed. She went in and never came out! Some people say she ran away but we say she sunk in the mud; so be careful, you never know when she is about to come at you…” This was the intro we got  before we went in.

First of all we were crawling through a muddy sewer, the horrible stench climbing up nose. Five minutes later my feet stumbled trying to keep my balance along the slippery surface. Ten minutes later I fell into the muddiest mud bath ever. Continuing our walk with the sound of mud squelching under my own feet. Fifteen minutes later climbing up a mud monster as big as a mountain slipping with every step with every step, with the rope sliding out of my hands. Screams come from the open air. What's that I thought to myself, as the mud oozed over my head. Flicking my head around, making the mud fly off into the air. My mouth was growing from one ear to the other. Laughter coming out of my mouth as everyone started throwing mud!

Digital Footprints

CYBER BULLYING

Digital Footprints:

- If you put something on the internet like a funny video you might regret putting on when you get older.

- But the bad thing is that you can’t just delete it. If you delete it, then it will still stay there like a footprint in the sand; it never fades.

- You would not believe how quickly things you put on the internet can spread can spread! People might find out strait away and you might be ashamed of it!!!

- If you post something, anyone can see it. The bad thing is, people can also share it to each other, and if they really want, they can save the photos/ videos that you have put online to their camera roll.

- If your friends post something that they might regret then you can help them by not sharing this with anyone else. People can watch what your friend has sent and they might regret this. So if you really want to help them by not being popular for the wrong reasons, then don’t show their video to anyone!

- Lots of people can post things on the internet and say they are true. But how do you know? If you go on the internet looking for some information, then you need to go and cheek on at least two different web sites, just to make sure they say the same thing, and that it isn’t fake.

- You know how you look in a magazine and you can see all these perfect models? Well, they don’t actually look like that. They have been photoshopped. Photoshopping is when someone takes a picture of you and makes a lot of changes, like makes you hair a different colour, your eyes bigger, and makes your neck longer. There’s no way that some people in magazines that you see can actually look like that in real life!

- If you bully someone online and the victim finds out and tells their parents you will get in big trouble because if it is bad enough they will tell the principal. Then your parents will have to be called up and told all about it. After that you know it won't be good. just think about it. The bullies parents will be affected just like the kid!

- If you are someone who gets bullied online then you need to go and tell an adult, and to not let it get any worse. Remember, DON’T reply to them at all! If a bully sends you an email or a text message, don’t reply, otherwise when you talk to your teacher they can see if you have written something mean back to the bully.

Family Affect:
Your family will get affected if you are getting bullied or if you are the bully. They will feel the same emotions as you.

Is It Bullying?
When someone does or says something unintentionally, it isn’t bullying, it just didn’t come out right.

RUDE:
Being rude is when someone hurts your feelings, even though they didn’t try to.

MEAN:
Being mean is when someone tries to hurt your feelings on purpose. But they only do it once

BULLYING:
Being a bully is when someone hurts you or your feelings on purpose, more than once, and when you say stop, they just keep on doing it, no matter how many times you say STOP!

If you wouldn’t say it to there face, then why say it on the internet?

Crowds of different colours looked like a rainbow crouched around the pool.
There were bombs of happiness going off inside of me when we won the house chant…
